I have always loved pine cones. I remember collecting them as a kid on walks through the woods. #life #pinecone #woods (Taken with Instagram)

And to top the day off - spaghetti squash sautéed with olive oil, garlic, tomatoes, olives and spinach. Delicious! The only non-vegan food today was some Parmesan cheese on top of dinner. As I work to shift my food habits Parmesan cheese is one of the challenges for me. But I have found a recipe for a vegan version I plan in trying soon. #vegan #wholefoods #food (Taken with Instagram)
Here’s my challenge. If you can’t wake up every day and, using your 100% original equipment God-given organic brain, come up with the three most important things you need to do that day – then you should seriously work on fixing that. I don’t mean install another app, or read more productivity blogs and books. You have to figure out what’s important to you and what motivates you; ask yourself why that stuff isn’t gnawing at you enough to make you get it done. Fix that.
I had been looking for a way to express a similar idea. That being, increasingly, my to do list is full of the things I park there that otherwise get in the way of what I’m actively focused on. It’s less a “to do” list and more of a “to don’t” list. I park them there because, for the moment, I do want to forget them.
My fridge is full of those magnetic words you can use to create inspiring thoughts or amusing reflections. Th other day I asked my son to put together something inspiring since the current collection of insights had been there awhile. He chose three words:
Wisdom is here.
Jack: “Mom, does that make sense?”
Me: “It makes perfect sense.” And I took a picture of it.
Jack: “Are you going to post that?”
So I am.
I was listening to a Tara Brach podcast yesterday. She commented that meditation is core training in remembrance. In other words, we meditate to remember to be present and here. Because yes…
wisdom is here.

…to love life, to love it even when you have no stomach for it
and everything you’ve held dear crumbles like burnt paper in your hands,
your throat filled with the silt of it.
When grief sits with you, its tropical heat
thickening the air, heavy as water
more fit for the gills than lungs;
when grief weighs you like your own flesh
only more of it, an obesity of grief,
you think, How can a body withstand this?
Then you hold life like a face
between your palms, a plain face
no charming smile, no violet eyes,
and you say, yes, I will take you
I will love you, again.

Waking up this morning, I smile. Twenty-four new hours are before me. I vow to live fully in each moment, and to look at all beings with eyes of compassion.
